About us

Who we are

We are a group of artists and musicians with a love of the coast, based in Woodbridge, Suffolk.

Over the last few years we have been running a stage on Art’s boat Marie, in Ipswich and Hull and we wanted to build on this experience to put the project on a firmer footing, and get more support to expand.

The Marie

‘Marie’ was built in 1963 in Troon, Scotland, and was bought in 20? by Art Butler who juggles two careers of marine electrician and fiddle player/composer for the Celtic fusion band Aartwork.

Marie’s hold no longer contains fish but is ideal to carry the equipment to assemble a substantial stage area above the deck house approximately 4m x 3m. The deck cabin comes into its own as a green room for performers. Marie is 17.95m overall length, 5.5m beam, 2.4m draft (although deep draft she will dry out happily in a mud berth)

The Seafolk mission continue even when the boat stage is not in use – if you see us, ‘Marie’ and the Seafolk flag in your harbour, we’d love to meet you and hear your ideas and songs!
